Origins and meaning of the Pop Art
Apr 26th
Pop art is an artistic movement that finds its origins in the mid-twentieth century, in the 1950s, and had its initial forces in the United Kingdom and the United States. This type of art that soon became an entire artistic movement founded by a strong critique of the artistic ways of that times. The art in general was elitist and at the same time, had become a device too elaborated and abstract. The Pop Art thus became an expression of ‘popular art’, based on the usage of images of everyday life, especially cities life, to build a new aesthetic that criticized the consumer society and commercial consumption.
However it is in the 1960s where we can find the real development of Pop Art as an art movement, leaving increasingly it’s nature of casual demonstrations of artistic groups. Its works are constantly driven to the use of everyday objects of consumer society, market products, goods in general. This not just let the Pop Art to make a direct criticism of that social model, but also allowed it to become popular and expanding their audiences.
